Lomi Lomi Salmon


Lomi Lomi Salmon

This is a cold smoked or salted salmon salad with tomatoes and onions.

Servings 20 people


  • 1 lb smoked or salted salmon
  • 1 large onion minced
  • 3 lbs tomatoes finely chopped
  • 1 bunch green onions chopped
  • 1 cup crushed ice


  1. Soak salmon in cold water for 1 to 2 hours, changing water if salmon is very salty.

  2. Drain and remove skin and bones.

  3. Shred salmon with spoon or fingers and place in a bowl with minced onion and tomatoes.

  4. Chill.

  5. Cover with a thin layer of crushed ice for about 1 hour before serving.

  6. Add green onions just before serving.

Recipe Notes

Loni in Hawaiian means "to squeeze, crush, mash fine." It is also a massage style.
